'The Prime Minister of Mirth'

One of the leading stars of British Music Hall and Stage. Born in 1869, he began his career in Pantomime in 1891, achieving great success in Manchester in 1894 in 'Jack and Jill' at the Comedy Theatre. He made most of his pantomime appearances in the provinces. In 1939 he played 'Mrs. Crusoe' at the Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham, where, despite falling from the stage, sustaining injuries, he returned to finish the run.
