The Gallery

In the late 1930's Arthur Lucan and his wife, Kitty McShane, were Britain's biggest box office draw. In their roles as Old Mother Riley and her daughter Kitty, Lucan and McShane topped the bill in the Variety theatres and were star attractions in the cinema.

It was essentially a Music Hall drag act, but it was also a double act. Arthur played the Dame, Old Mother Riley, an irascible Irish washerwoman. Kitty played Mother Riley's wayward and headstrong daughter.
