Aladdin - 1885-6

Theatre Royal, Drury Lane

Pantomime featured Herbert Campbell as Abanazar, and Harry Nicholls as "Widow Twankay"- it hadn't become "Twankey" at this time. Many of the costume & scenic designs by Wilhelm. The "Cinderella" advertised at the Crystal Palace was formerly a Drury Lane Pantomime from 1883, and several of the original designs for this were discovered in the Mae Rogers collection at Newbury Park- now bought for the Theatre Museum.

The pantomime featured one of Augustus Harris's spectacular "Grand Processions"- "A Dream Of Fair Women" featuring heroines from history- Cleopatra, Nell Gwyn of Drury Lane, Empress Josephine and even Lady Godiva! This Procession- I believe each lady had at least three attendants, was repeated a few years later in the Drury Lane pantomime with Dan Leno.
